The White Lion is located at the heart of one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of the West Country. Although in the county of Dorset it is also very close to the borders of both Wiltshire and Somerset. The inn dates from 1723. It is the most northerly inn in Dorset and the garden features the deepest well in Dorset.
Nearby is the wonderful National Trust property of Stourhead with its world famous garden and follies. Just down the road Alfred's Tower marks the spot where King Alfred raised his standard before marching to defeat the Danes. There are spectacular views from the top.
Stonehenge is just a short drive away. Shaftesbury, the old Anglo-Saxon hilltop town, is close and well worth a visit, while the sublime architecture of Bath is within easy reach.
